Seattle Teacher Residency offers City Year alums

Teaching residency

can anticipate the following benefits:

  • $24,000 scholarship, and opportunities for additional scholarships
  • Master’s in teaching from the University of Washington in one year
  • Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in elementary education and English Language Learners or an endorsement in Special Education
  • Yearlong teaching residency with an experienced mentor teacher
  • Excellent, engaging, rigorous, justice- and equity-focused coursework
  • Teaching placement in Seattle Public Schools upon successful completion of the program for those pursuing a Special Education endorsement

The application for the 2027-2028 academic year will open September 1, 2026, with a deadline of January 31st, 2027. Note: City Year applicants are encouraged to secure a letter of recommendation from the principal of the school they served in and submit that with their application.

To identify your City Year affiliation

City Year AmeriCorps members and alums should highlight their City Year experience on their résumés and indicate their affiliation with City Year under the appropriate section of the online application.
